The Municipality of Rotterdam has launched this special project and is eager to learn how to generate sustainable energy. ZigZagSolar can certainly contribute to a more sustainable Rotterdam with facade solar panels. This facade produces energy precisely when the sun is low and the demand for energy is highest: when everyone is starting the day in the morning, preparing for the evening, or preferring to stay indoors in the winter.
Because Sportbedrijf Rotterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam wanted to make the exterior of the south-facing facade of the Rodaristraat School Sports Complex in Prinsenland sustainable, both thoroughly and aesthetically, 30 integrated glass-glass ZigZagSolar solar panels featuring an image were installed. The ZIG consists of the solar panel pointing towards the sun. The ZAG consists of composite elements on which a map of the gymnasium's surroundings is printed, which is clearly visible from the street.
The result is an energy-generating solar facade good for decades providing sustainable and low-cost electricity of more than 3,000 kWh per year. With the saved and generated energy, the emission of approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to 80 trees per year, is avoided.
